This is true. They are like sheep without a guide. The wolves come and devour them completely and they end up back in the world. Even worse, most don't come back, ever. A church here in San Angelo, Tx. receives drug-addicts and alcoholics from the street into his church houses, men , women and children. They live there but go through 14 bible lessons given by those who already took the lesson. When the are done they get a diploma stating they passed all 14 lessons. They are now ready to disciple new comers. They give them the same lessons they took. They LEARN how to disciple their own. Once they have the diploma they can take the advanced lessons taught only by the pastor. That motivates them to finish the 14 lessons. It's a great strategy I believe.
Spiritual maturity truly isn't measured by how long you have been a Christian, or how often you go to church, how much or long that you pray, how often you read the Bible, or how good you can quote scripture.
When I consult worship leaders, pastors and tech directors - one of my main areas of focus is volunteers.
You are right, there will be frustration and conflict. As leaders, we set the stage for how that is handled.
My time is precious, so when I volunteer for something, I want to know that 1). There is a clear vision I can get behind for the project or service or church, 2). That there is someone in leadership who knows where we are going and how to get there, and 3). That there is a system of healthy communication in place for when conflict arises - - and it always does.

Great article! While a strong-will doesn't necessarily mean strong leadership, a leader must be bold enough to show the way and speak out to bring clarity and dispell confussion. I have written a story entitled, 'Adam, where are you?'(www.ademite.wordpress.com) It touches on the issue of leadership on the homefront.

I am glad that this is here. People need to know the relevance of the Bible. They also need to know how to study it for themselves. I have a blog that is presently going through a series on Bible Study Methods. It can be found http://drschristianplace.blogspot.com . Yes, I guess that was a shameless plug. But every little help to getting the word of God in the person who will turn around and teach others is needed. So I am in the battle with you guys.
